Abstract
In Hong Kong, several high-quality studies were conducted by Hong Kong urology nurses dedicated to improving urology care. These studies evaluated different treatment options and approaches for managing a range of conditions related to the urinary tract and male reproductive system. By using a new hematuria scale, magnetic double-J stents, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) therapy for overactive bladder syndrome (OAB), a digital video camera for teaching clean intermittent self-catheterization (CISC), virtual reality (VR) service during transperineal (TP) prostate biopsies, and extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) for erectile dysfunction (ED), the following results were found: The hematuria scale was shown to be reliable and valid. Magnetic double-J stents were effective in reducing symptoms and improving quality of life. PTNS therapy was shown to be an effective, minimally invasive technique for treating OAB. Using a digital video camera resulted in easier catheter insertion and improved patient confidence in implementing CISC. VR during TP prostate biopsy was safe and reported better pain control. ESWT was effective in improving symptoms of ED. These findings contribute to the ongoing efforts to improve urology care and provide evidence-based references for healthcare professionals worldwide.
