Abstract
This scholarly book chapter provides an in-depth examination of key aspects involved in burn nursing care and management, underscoring the vital role of public health education in promoting injury prevention and effective first aid measures. The chapter delineates the critical function of Accident and Emergency Departments in the triage and evaluation of burn injuries, guiding patients toward suitable care environments, including specialized burn units and outpatient clinics. The adoption of a multidisciplinary approach to burn care, incorporating the expertise of burn surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, is emphasized as instrumental in optimizing patient outcomes.
The chapter discusses cutting-edge advancements in burn surgery, such as the implementation of laser Doppler Imaging for early assessment of burn wound healing potential and the utilization of dermal substitutes. These innovative techniques serve as novel treatment strategies for full-thickness burns, subsequently reducing complications like hypertrophic scarring and contractures.
Finally, the chapter delves into the multifaceted dimensions of burn rehabilitation, covering topics such as wound dressing methodologies, patient positioning, range of motion exercises, educational initiatives, and psychosocial support. The overarching goal of burn care and management is to enable the patient’s successful reintegration into society and the pursuit of a fulfilling life.
