These access networks will interwork through the core network, which should be able to provide the quality of service (QoS) required for the different traffic passing through it. The core network must also allow interworking of different access networks through the core network. This paper proposes that in order to provide QoS in the MPLS core network, DiffServ should be combined with it. A bandwidth broker (BB) is introduced to allow for integration of policies with QoS granted. It is important for transmission of voice and video that the peak information rate (PIR) is accounted for in the QoS service classes. The design is based on an out of band QoS signalling which decouples QoS signalling from session establishment. The session can only be established if the QoS signalling grants resources to meet the QoS requirements.enMPLS core network for an interworked NGN providing QoSconference proceedings10.1109/ICON.2006.302608
