Steady state harmonic oscillation has been studied almost exclusively. The methods are extended to general non-steady state excitations. The orthonormality condition of the modal vectors in terms of the masters is introduced. A mixed mass matrix for initial conditions is derived. The dynamic flexibility is expressed in spectral form for response calculation. Modal participation factors for both distributed and concentrated loads are given explicitly.enDynamic substructure responsejournal article10.1016/0022-460X(91)90912-4
