Whilst 10% of workers declared only identification, elimination or inconclusive opinions, the remainder were prepared to give qualified opinions. Of these, the minority used probability in a mathematical sense whilst the majority preferred ordinary English language. The most popular expressions for qualified opinions were “probable” and “highly probable”. These two types of qualified opinion, ordinary English language and probability expressions, have been analysed critically.
