Abstract
This book chapter aims to (1) review the existing and emerging models of social work supervision, (2) formulate a comprehensive model to inform, inspire, and improve the supervisory practice of both supervisors and supervisees involved in the supervisory process, and (3) highlight the direction of the further research agenda in social work supervision. The new model will serve as a guide and map for the practitioners to understand why supervision is so important, what the supervisors are doing, and how they can improve. This attempt is also an effort to provide a picture for the scholars in social work supervision to conduct further research which may help enabling and enhancing the effectiveness of the existing supervisory practice and potential theory and knowledge building in future.
