Abstract
Janus nanostructures are popular in a wide variety of applied scientific fields because they provide two adjacent sides to contact with environments. Thus, such structures can be facilely endowed with desired properties and functional performances through tailoring multiple components with various compositions and special spatial distributions. In biomedical applications, electrospun medicated Janus nanofibers have emerged as the next generation of nano drug delivery systems. This commentary elucidates the expansion of Janus structures from bi-chamber to tri-chamber architectures, evaluates the present state of Janus structures for drug delivery based on analyses of data from Web of Science, and provides opinions regarding the new generation of electrospun Janus nanofibers for drug delivery, focusing on tri-chamber configurations.
