Abstract
Paediatric surgical nursing presents a unique set of challenges and complexities, particularly when caring for children aged 0–18 years with diverse surgical issues. Given the unique social, psychological, emotional, and physical aspects of paediatric patients, this population requires specialized nursing approaches. The chapter addresses the use of team collaboration and sophisticated enterostomal therapy (ET) skills to tackle these nursing challenges, covering the following topics: paediatric stoma care plan, complex paediatric wound care, paediatric anorectal manometry and biofeedback care, paediatric bowel management care, and paediatric urodynamic studies.
The practice of paediatric surgical nursing demands advanced assessment skills, child advocacy, psychological care, counselling, and health education. Furthermore, it accentuates the importance of fostering trusting and collaborative relationships with patients’ families to ensure effective disease information dissemination and support.
Finally, the significance of multidisciplinary team collaboration and skillful nursing care in improving paediatric surgical care outcomes is emphasized. By leveraging team collaboration and advanced ET skills, healthcare professionals can enhance the quality of care and outcomes for paediatric surgical patients.
